If you’ve been following RCCblog for the past few years, you probably remember Rob Morton: one of our alumni bloggers best known for his hilarious theater reviews, his surprisingly insightful dining hall reviews, and his controversial post on the paranormal activity rumored to happen all around campus. Although Rob no longer writes for us here at the blog, he’s hard at work leading the RCC Video team and creating all kinds of amazing visual content for BSU.

Humor Hotlines (you know, the people who made the infamous “rejection hotline”) is hosting a web video contest in which the video with the most views (AND the most calls to the phone number in the video) wins a huge prize of $750 which Rob hopes to win and put towards buying some new production equipment for the team.

This video Rob wrote and directed is called “It Could be Worse” and it’s seriously hilarious! So do an RCCblog alumni a favor and click the “play” button below. It only takes about 2 minutes of your time!

And stay tuned- we’ll be keeping up-to-date with Rob and the video team, so keep us bookmarked for all the latest viral video content.

Hello Video Squad

jpeg of students filming a movie

by rmortonbsc on May 5, 2011

Next year will be completely different for me, instead of writing, I will be filming.  I will be completely in my element.  I love film, and everything about it.  I am majoring in Communications Media Studies and really focusing on the film aspect.  Hopefully when I graduate I will be able to work on some cool movies and instead of reading my blog posts, you can watch them!

As most of you know Campus Moviefest wrapped up with the big finale last week!  It was such a fun event as it always is.  This year around 500 people attended the finale in the RCC Ballroom.  Last year I entered the movie A Loss Refound.  The movie made the top 16 and I was beyond excited.  But knowing the competition here at Bridgewater State University I knew if I was to ever win I would have to step up my game to the next level.  So over the last year me and my friends have been planning a comedy.  This was my first time to dabble into comedy, and I had no idea how to go about this.  But sure enough when that week came, we were ready and Interquenchin was born.  I accomplished my goal and we won Best Comedy of 2011!  It was unbelievable.  It is my life goal to be a filmmaker, and to win this competition, especially here at BSU has just solidified my goals.  We are going to be traveling out to Los Angeles in June to attend the international Grand Finale.  BSU has some great movies going out there; Sacrifice and Bliss won Best Picture made by Jim Sass, and Kevin Eam’s Best Drama Unattainable. I think I can speak on behalf of all of us going to the West Coast by saying it is going to be a great learning experience for all of us.  We get to attend a ton of great seminars and workshops throughout the whole trip.  This whole thing has been a great experience and it keeps getting better!

My next year is going to be a busy one.  I am taking 19 credits, I am the President of the Bridgewater Video & Film Association, I am working on the RCC Video Team, I am working as an Edit Lab Tech, and I will probably be doing some side projects.  Hopefully I will be able to do a guest blog post and update you on how I’ve become the master of balancing. With all three of my positions I will be fully enveloped in video stuff. Don’t get me wrong though, I can’t wait!

Thank you all  for reading!  Its been fun! Be sure to watch for the RCC Video Squad in the Fall!  Good luck with finals, and have a safe and fun Summer.

The Hollywood Effect

jpeg of Charlie Sheen

by rmortonbsc on March 30, 2011

One of Americans favorite pastimes is not only Baseball, but also watching celebrities crash and burn.  We build them up and show them lots of love just hopping that one day they will do something we can all talk about at work or school the next day.  Think about Lindsay Lohan, Brittney Spears, and Paris Hilton.  Notice a pattern here? (I’ll give you a hint, they are all girls!) Where are the guy’s you may ask?  Well, I’ll get to him later.

People love to talk about these people and their downfalls.  The worst part of all is, we give out second chances.  These second chances almost ensure another downfall.  This is our everyday life and everyday news.  You hear about it all the time.  So and so did this, so and so did that.  It’s never about important news it’s just a pop singers everyday life, or an heiresses 15 minutes of fame turned into 15 months of fame.

With Twitter we can now find out what our favorite celebrities are doing every second of the day.  Whether they are on set, getting ready for a concert, or going to jail.  You can find all of the information on twitter.  Celebrities have thousands and millions of followers.  Some celebrities even have more than a million.  Charlie Sheen (yeah, you saw this coming) gained over one million followers in a single day!  Before he even posted a single thing he had 50,000 followers.  I can’t get 3 followers in 3 months let alone a million in a day.  By posting a picture of himself with the caption “Winning” he gained his 1.2 million followers.  With that came a genesis book of world records record amount of followers in a day.  Congrats Charles.

Now either Sheen’s lost all interest in acting, or his publicists are genius.  Over the past few weeks Charlie Sheen, believe it or not, has become one of the most popular and talked about people in America.  Before he began talking about “tiger blood” and “winning” no one knew him from anything except a drunken Uncle on Two and a Half Men.  A recent poll indicated that independent voters would choose Sheen for President over Palin (41/36). That’s not saying much, but it is a good indicator of his popularity, and where politics stands vs. Hollywood.

Is this really news?  Charlie Sheen posts a new video on YouTube somehow tops missing children and natural disasters.  Recently it has quieted down because Sheen hired new publicists and they gave him the idea to do a meet and listen to Charlie Sheen talk tour around the US which is going to make him millions. (It’s coming to Boston)  When we think of news we should be thinking of the disaster in Japan, or what’s going on in Libya.  Celebrity gossip is not the news! Stop reading and watching TMZ and start reading TIME or watching CNN.

Is this where the future of news is heading? Do you care about Charlie Sheen? Is it ok for Americans to care so much about Celebrities?
