Here at BSU, there’s a huge variety of classes to choose from. No matter what your major is or what you’re interested in, there’s something for everyone! I decided to scroll through Infobear and find some of the most interesting ones to consider for the upcoming registration season.

Study Tour: Hawaii – Okay, how cool is it to have a class where you go to Hawaii for two weeks then write a report on it? It’s almost like vacation, but you get credit for it! The chance to see a new place AND grab a few extra elective credits? Sign me up!

1YSem: Post-Apocalyptic Lit: – Have you ever wondered what the world would be like after an apocalypse? If you’re freaking out about 2012 or maybe just a bit of a conspiracy theorist, this class is for you. You’ll learn about how humans (what’s left of us) would act and how we could build back societies. Professor Sean Janson really has a way of connecting with his students and keeping the class interested.

1YSem:Superhero/Graphic Novel – This class may sound like it was made only for those students who spent their middle school years in comic book shops, (nothing wrong with that!) but that’s so not true. We all watched superhero cartoons on Saturday mornings growing up and as long as you have an interest for justice, this class is a blast. You will learn something, while still being able to a lot of fun discussing favorites like The Dark Knight Returns and Watchmen.

2YSem: Secret Life of Coffee – What college student doesn’t like coffee? Okay well besides me, I’m the exception. This class focuses on where coffee was made and how the economics behind the mega-industry work. Not to mention, you get to sample coffee from all over the world for free!

As you can see, there are LOTS of unique class choices- and this is only a few of them. f you have all or most of your required classes why not take a little break with one of these easy, fun, yet still educational classes? You’ll have a blast doing it and score a few extra credits.

Have you taken any of these classes? Which class sounds most interesting? Will you take any of these courses in the future?

As a Boston Celtics fan, it pains me to write this. As of March 12th 2012, the Celtics are in second place in the northeast division. This team has never finished out of 1st place in the division since acquiring Ray Allen and Kevin Garnett in 2008. However, that was three years ago and this team is now a little long-in-the-tooth. With a record of 21-19, Celtic’s GM Danny Ainge takes nothing but uncertainty in his team to the trading deadline.

Make it or Break it

I’m sure that all Celtic’s fans can agree that at this point we are NOT a championship caliber squad. We can’t win the second game of back-to-backs and we will definitely continue to struggle down the road. These facts combined with the inability to fight Father Time leaves Ainge at a crossroads. Should he break this team up with trades before the March 15th trade deadline, or should Danny ride it out with his players for one last miracle?

Trade ‘em Away

A case can certainly be made for trading some of our players now. Right now, the deadline is when they have the most value. Other contending teams may be looking for that final piece to a championship puzzle, and that piece could be a Celtic veteran. Allen and Garnett have contracts that end after this current season so a team that trades for one of them would only be required to pay half of their season’s salary. Another piece to trade away could be star point guard Rajon Rondo, but even though he has his share of attitude problems, I wouldn’t give him away for anything. There are only about four other point guards I’d deal him for and that is unlikely to happen.

HERE’S MY TWO CENTS

I think Danny should try to add a big guy (for as cheap as possible) to help bolster our rebounding totals and keep the rest of the team intact. Like I said, Ray and Kevin’s contracts are up at the end of the season as are other role players. If the Celtics continue to struggle down the stretch, we should let the aging players go in the off-season and look to rebuild going forward.

Would you blow up the team now or wait for the off-season? Do the Celtics have any shot to win another NBA title?

I know you resident BSU hipsters have great ways of spending free time, but have you ever felt bored of the same old routine? Partying, being with your friends, and eating Taco Bell are all great activities, but remember- even though we’re getting up there in the age department doesn’t mean we can’t still play board games.  Example: I challenge you to play Apples to Apples without peeing your pants! If you want to add something new to the mix, bust out one of these games…

Outrageous and Never Failing:

Apples to Apples

Although many family fights have broken out while playing this, it’s 100 % worth it.  Apples to Apples involves combining cards together and winning by getting the most combinations.  The combos have to be judged the most adequate by a judge.

-But take the word adequate with a grain of salt-you can argue(!) as much necessary to get your card chosen over everyone else’s.  Funny combos include: “Rush Limbaugh” and “Attractive.”  Gather up a couple of people, especially on a bad day, and play Apples to Apples. You won’t regret it.

There’s nothing boring about this bad boy:

Jenga: Truth or Dare

I hope that everyone played Jenga as a kid (Ya gotta get that wood thing built by pieces, to stay in pieces, and not fall into pieces). BUT this one’s got a little(and exciting!) twist to it. Obviously the twist is given away in the title- it’s a “truth or dare game”- but the combination of a foot high pile of blocks falling and the revealing of sometimes cripplingly embarrassing secrets is… AWESOME.

Simple Yet Addictive

UNO

If you’re color blind, mastering this game wouldn’t be your strong suit, but no fear- one of the most fun ways to play is with teams, so you could be the master of numbers and “reverse” cards. The object is to get rid of all your cards through a system of color and number match ups.  When someone only has one card left, they hit that card and yell “UNO!” Unless someone else does so first, in which case the “Uno-er” must take all of the cards in the discard pile and start over.

WHODUNIT!? :

Clue- FAMILY GUY EDITION (!!!)

As if Clue wasn’t superior enough in Board-Game Land that they had to add a Family Guy Version! If you’re not familiar with Clue, it’s a suspenseful, fun-filled board game whose object is to figure out who killed who.  If you’re not familiar with Family Guy, then get out.  Just kidding! In the Family Guy version, the Giant Chicken (from the episodes that feature Peter and him fist-fighting endlessly) is the “person” killed.  The funny theme enhances the whole game, with results such as “Stewie Griffin with the Revolver in the Billiard Room killed the Giant Chicken.”

Not only are board games fun, but they’re also an ice breaker in social settings, preventing potential awkward silences.

Those are just four examples, but I bet you have more in mind.  Wipe off the dust from your old board games and have fun.

Do you have any old board games hidden in your closet? What’s your favorite game?
