College is one of the best parts in our lives, but we all know that it can also be the most stressful at times. As students we get older gaining valuable experience, as well as obtaining more responsibilities. For the most part, it seems that there are so many tasks to do, yet so little time to accomplish them all. We suck it up, take our 15 credit courses (some even max out to 18 credits), and push through to succeed.
Those credits are important, but have you ever wanted to take a course about…you? Then schedule an appointment with the Counseling Center here at Bridgewater State University, because You are definitely a course that needs to be passed! Here are some reasons to schedule an appointment and take control.
- Take a Course on You!
Like I said before, college can be very stressful and time management can be quite cramped; however, that should give you even more motivation to schedule time for yourself. With all the responsibilities and stressors we face as college students, more often than not we end up not focusing on ourselves. By scheduling an hour a week, you can have an hour solely focusing on you (nothing else). Don’t let yourself fall between the cracks.
- Someone To Talk To
With the Counseling Center, you will always have someone to talk to. Every week is a new chance to reflect on what is happening in your life, and a dedicated counselor is always there for you. If you are going through personal issues, then have no fear because the Counseling Center is here. We all go through rough times and we often think there is no place we can go. Bridgewater State University is trying to help us grow and succeed in life, and through the Counseling Services, they will make sure you will reach your goals.
- Confidentiality
When you speak with a counselor, everything that is said between you and your counselor STAYS in the room. Before you attend your first appointment, you sign a confidentiality contract that protects you, ensuring the trust between you and the counselor. Besides the legal protection, the counselors are so dedicated to help you that it shouldn’t be an issue. You really form a bond with the a counselor and the more times you go, the more comfortable you will feel.
- Focus
By meeting with a counselor, it can keep you on the right track. Since you meet once a week, you can really reflect on what is presently bothering you and work together with a counselor to overcome any obstacle. You can stay focused and make sure you never stray from the right path.
- It’s Free!!!
This is what shocks me the most…IT’S FREE! So why not take advantage of this opportunity? As students of Bridgewater State University, we can take advantage of this service to better ourselves during this essential part in our lives.
I’m a Junior here at Bridgewater State University and this is my second semester working with the Counseling Center. The first time I went, I was going through a rough patch in my life and they were really there for me. Without there help at this time, I wouldn’t have passed Sophmore year. Now, a year older and more mature, I realized how valuable they were in keeping me focused and staying on track. As a young kid entering college, I was Undeclared and stressed so much about what classes I needed to take, or what major to pursue. Now I’m more focused, content, and happy to be taking a course on Myself. This is going to be my best “A” ever.
