When you first walked into your dorm room on move-in day, perhaps the bare white walls, empty beds, and unnatural echoes made it appear boring, lifeless, or even unwelcoming. But little by little when you unpacked, it looked and felt more like home. Why stop there? Pinterest has so many great do-it-yourself crafts that you can try right in your dorm room and on a college student’s budget!
Melted Crayon Art- Who says you can’t use crayons in college? I’ve seen a wide variety of this crayon art on Pinterest lately. Not only is it pretty, but it looked like a lot of fun to make; the allure of melting something convinced me to try it! Just glue the crayons onto a small poster and use a hairdryer to melt the crayons. But beware: the melted wax will explode outward at times! I made my creation with a 24-pack, and found that I didn’t have quite enough crayons to cover the page, so I would possibly suggest two 24-packs.
Decorated Letters- These are really simple, but make a cute, personalized addition to any dorm room for you and your roommate(s). I bought pre-made wooden letters for cheap at Michael’s. You can really get creative and either draw designs on them (maybe with Sharpies?), glue rhinestones or buttons on top, write quotes on them, or even just cover them with your choice of wrapping paper like I did!
Hanging Décor: I combined these two together and made my own creation. I bought some green foam balls at Michael’s, along with some small fake flowers with tiny stems that could be poked through the foam. I also mixed in some of my own pictures to give it that personal touch. Talk about a way to spice up a boring, cement wall!
Painting with Bottles: No art skills? No problem! Before recycling all your old bottles from Bear’s Den, just paint the bottom of a bottle for a simple flower stamp!Have you found any ideas for your dorm room from Pinterest? How else have you decorated your room?
